A 15-year-old boy, identified as Hassan Osama al-Ghathith, died on August 25, 2023, of injuries sustained when he was shot by a member of the Syrian regime’s Military Security force on August 21, 2023, following a verbal dispute between the two at a checkpoint in Hassan’s home town of Buqrus in eastern Deir Ez-Zour governorate.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this and similar acts of killing, Syrian regime forces have violated international human rights law. The perpetrator must be held accountable.
