On August 3, 2023, the body of a man, identified as Hassan Tawfiq Da’boul, a shepherd from Afis village in eastern rural Idlib, was found by local residents in a well on the outskirts of Sarmin city in eastern rural Idlib governorate. Hassan had been missing since July 22, 2023.

The area is under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has not yet been able to identify Hassan’s killers as of this writing. The controlling forces bear responsibility to identify his killers.
