A man, identified as Omar Hassan al-Emieri from al-Mansoura village in western rural Suwayda governorate, was shot dead on August 4, 2023, by gunmen we have not yet been able to identify in the tent where he had been living with his family in Kharba village on the administrative borders between the governorates of Daraa and Suwayda governorate.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that Omar, who had been working as a security guard at an agricultural project, was previously a member of a military formation in eastern rural Daraa governorate.

The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident. We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas, to investigate this incident, and to make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
