Two men, identified as Hammoud Salim al-Nazzal and Mohammad Salim al-Nazzal, were shot dead on July 19, 2023, by Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) personnel during a joint raid by SDF and international coalition forces on the men’s home village of Tal al-Thahab in the southeastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, near the Syrian-Iraqi border.
The area is currently under the control of the SDF. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that, through this act of killing, the SDF has violated international human rights law, and that the perpetrators must be held accountable.
