A boy, identified as 11-year-old Mohammad Mansour al-Dabbous from al- Husseiniya town in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour, was killed on June 22, 2023, by the explosion of a landmine whose source we have not yet been able to identify between the towns of al-Jneina and al- Husseiniya in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour while he and his father were heading to their work in farming. Mohammad’s father, as well as another child, were critically wounded.

According to our sources, the landmine was recently planned in the area. It is suspected that Syrian regime forces personnel snuck into the area and planned it.
The area is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in areas under their control, and to locate and remove landmines planted in these areas. We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from the explosions of landmines, which pose a serious, long-term threat, especially to children, which will last for years to come.
