A young boy, identified as Farouq Mohammad al-Salloum from Morek city in the northern suburbs of Hama, was killed on June 22, 2023, by the explosion of a weapons remnant whose source we have not yet been able to identify in the city. The explosion also wounded multiple civilians. According to our sources, Farouq was carrying the remnant home after finding it in agricultural land when it fell from his hand in front of his family’s house and exploded.

The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that weapon remnants still pose a serious threat to the lives of civilians. We have released numerous reports on cluster munitions and weapon remnants, and called for securing the necessary equipment to assist local residents in properly removing all kinds of explosive remnants.
