A woman, identified as 18-year-old Rubin Ibrahim Qasou from Aqiba village, administratively a part of Afrin city in northwestern Aleppo governorate, was abducted for conscription on June 7, 2023 by the Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) al-Shabiba al-Thawriya, (Revolutionary Youth) faction, also known as the ‘Joanne Schurchkar’, on her way home from her workplace at the al-Saed Company for Medicine and Medical Supplies in al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood of Aleppo city. She was taken to an SDF detention center in al-Sheikh Maqsoud neighborhood.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Rubin’s family has not been notified of what has happened to her, and she is forbidden to contact them or have them visit her. We have concerns that she will be forced to participate in direct and indirect military action.
