On May 23, 2023, the dead body of 31-year-old Mohammad Kheir Adnan al-Aqayla, from al-Sheikh Miskeen city in the northern suburbs of Daraa, was found by local residents on the road connecting Jasim and Nawa city in northern Daraa, bearing gunshot wounds.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that Mohammad was a former member of an armed formation affiliated with the Syrian regime’s ‘Ferqa Rabe’a’ (Fourth Division). Mohammad joined the armed formation in question in 2018 following the settlement with Syrian regime forces for two years, after which he retired from military life and returned to civilian life and his former job in agriculture. The city is under the control of Syrian regime forces. SNHR has not been able to identify Mohammad’s killers as of this writing, with the controlling forces bearing responsibility to identify the perpetrators.
