A 60-year-old man identified as Lutfi Hassan Mastou, from Qurqaniya village in the northern suburbs of Idlib, was killed on May 3, 2023, by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), commonly known as a drone, believed to be operated by the international coalition. The drone fired a rocket that targeted Lutfi on a hilly land while he was herding sheep on the outskirts of Qurqaniya village in the northwestern suburbs of Idlib.

The area is under the joint control of armed opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham.

Whether through indiscriminate or deliberate bombardment that failed to distinguish between civilians and fighters, international coalition forces have again violated international humanitarian law, which constitutes a war crime. The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has recorded thousands of killings by international coalition forces since their intervention began on September 23, 2014. Over 3,000 civilian Syrian citizens have been killed by international coalition forces. The international community must intervene to protect civilians in Syria from the ongoing bloodbath.
