On April 24, 2023, three children were killed and two others injured by the explosion of an unidentified warfare projectile whose source we have not yet been able to determine, which they’d found in a dumpster in al Qasrak area in northern Hasaka governorate and taken home with them to their home village of Ain al-Abd, located in the suburbs of Tal Tamer town in the northwest of the region. The victims, all from the village, were identified as Mariam Khadr Iwwayes, an 11-year-old girl, Baydaa Mohammad Bouomar, a nine-year-old girl, and Abdul Aziz Khadr al-Iwwayes, an eight-year-old boy.
The area is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.
We call on the controlling forces to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians in their areas and to investigate this incident and make the findings of the investigation known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a genuine political transition process towards democracy within a fixed timetable.
