A seven-year-old boy, identified as Mohammad al-Yousef from Aleppo governorate, was shot dead on April 20, 2023, by members of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Asayish forces when he attempted to pick a flower while playing with other children. Mohammad was killed when he attempted to pick the flower near a fence in the eighth sector of al-Hawl Camp, in eastern Hasaka. The camp is controlled by the SDF.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that through this act of killing, the SDF has again violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
