Hassan Subhi Toubal, a 25-year-old man from Der Sawwan village, which is administratively a part of Afrin city in northwestern Aleppo governorate, was arrested on March 25, 2023, by members of the Syrian National Army’s (SNA) civilian police force in a raid on his home in the village over allegations of his working with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). He was taken to an undisclosed location.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that his phone was seized, and he was denied the opportunity to contact his family. We are concerned he may be subjected to torture and may go on to become yet another forcibly disappeared person as with 85 percent of all those detained in Syria.
SNHR calls for compensating the victim materially and morally, and for ending all arbitrary detentions which only aim to spread fear and panic among people and extort people. We also call on the SNA and all armed oppositon factions to revealthe fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by their forces.
