On March 25, 2023, the bodies of four civilians, all bearing gunshot wounds, were found in Jabal al-Beshri area in the western badiya (desert) of Deir Ez-Zour.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) notes that the four civilians were abducted on March 9, 2023, along with two others while they were collecting desert truffles in the Abu Hayya area in the western badiya (desert area) of Deir Ez-Zour, and taken to an undisclosed location.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. While SNHR has not yet been able to identify the party responsible for the murders, the fact that these controlling forces who bear responsibility for identifying the killers have launched no investigation into the incident raises suspicions of their involvement.
