Ahmad al-Jaddaa, a 13-year-old boy with Down’s Syndrome, from al-Sabha town in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead on February 3, 2023, by a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) patrol while they were firing indiscriminately at protestors in the town of al-Sahba in Deir Ez-Zour suburbs who were calling for the release of detainees from SDF prisons. The SDF patrol opened fire after the protestors got in the way of a convoy of oil tanker trucks as it pased through the town that day.
The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that, through the crime of murder, SDF has violated international human rights law. The perpetrators must be held accountable.
