A 50-year-old female schoolteacher named Yusra Ahmad al-Abd al-Muhsen, from al-Arfi neighborhood in Deir Ez-Zour city, was killed on January 30, 2023, by an explosion whose source we have not yet been able to identify inside her home in al-Joura neighborhood, Deir Ez-Zour city. The neighborhood is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights notes that the explosion occurred inside a wood heater. We are still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
