Mahmoud Eyad Qasim al-Balkhi, a 14-year-old boy from Mahajja town in the northern subrubs of Daraa governorate, was killed on January 22, 2023, by a landmine whose source we have not been able to identify near the International Highway in the town’s eastern area, which is under Syrian regime forces’ control.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling force to uphold their responsibilities by protecting civilians in their territories, and by revealing the location of landmines there and working to remove them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from the explosion of landmines, which will continue to pose a serious and long-term threat to civilians, especially children, for years to come.
