On January 22, 2023, the body of Tawfiq Mohammad al-Hammad, from al-Hreijiya village in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour was found by local residents on the outskirts of al-Hreijiya village bearing gunshot wounds. Tawfiq had mysteriously disappeared three days earlier, on January 19, 2023.
The city is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). While we, at the Syrian Network for Human Rights, have not yet been able to identify the party responsible for Tawfiq’s killing, the controlling forces, whichbear responsibility for identifying the killer, havelaunched no investigation into the crime, raisingsuspicion of their involvement in such crimes
