Ahmad al-Saleh, from al-Jarthi town in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, was shot dead in the town on January 16, 2023, by gunmen on a motorcycle, who we have not yet been able to identify. The town is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
