Mahmoud Adel al-Salloum, an IDP from Deir Ez-Zour city who lived in Zghier town in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour, who had been working as an electronic device repairman, was shot dead on January 7, 2023, by gunmen who we have not yet been able to identify in al-Hesan village in the western suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour. Al-Hesan village is under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces.

SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We condemn all killings targeting civilians and call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
