Mahmoud al-Ibied, child from al-Zafar village, administratively affiliated with Abu al-Thohour in the eastern suburbs of Idlib governorate, was killed on January 6, 2023 by the explosion of a 23 mm caliber machine gun bullet which was left by a previous bombardment whose source we have not been able to identify yet as he was collecting the leftovers of the potato harvest in an agricultural land near Zardana town, northern suburbs of Idlib governorate. The area is under the joint control of the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham and armed opposition factions.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights stresses that the weapon remnants continue to pose a serious threat to civilians’ lives. We have released numerous reports on the issue of cluster munitions and other weapon remnants, in which we called for providing the necessary equipment to help local residents with removing explosive remnants.
