Mohammad Atta Bakkar al-Sa’di, the Imam and Khatib (orator) of a masjid in Kafr Shams town in the northern suburbs of Daraa governorate, was shot dead on December 14, 2022, by gunmen we have not been able to identify yet who raided his home in the town, which is under the control of Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We condemn all acts of killing targeting civilians. We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this incident and make its details known to the public. Syria will never have true stability without a true political transition process to implement democracy under a concrete timetable.
