Yousef al-Hayyawi, child from al-Araba’in village, administratively affiliated with Ras al-Ein city in the northwestern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, was killed on December 5, 2022, by a landmine whose source we have not been yet able to identify in the village. The village was under the control of the Syrian National Army (SNA) at the time of the incident.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain more information about the incident.

We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities to protect civilians living in areas under their control, to disclose the locations of landmines, and to work on properly removing them.

We have documented hundreds of deaths and injuries resulting from landmine explosions, with these mines continuing to pose a serious threat to the lives of residents, especially children, that will last for years.
