Two children from the same family, a boy named Mohammad al-Jasim and a girl named Islam al-Jasim, were killed, while a third child was wounded, when an unknown assailant threw a live hand grenade near them in al-Mashahde village in the eastern suburbs of Homs governorate on October 24, 2022. We are so far unable to identify the attacker responsible for the attack.

The village is controlled by Syrian regime forces. SNHR is still trying to locate eyewitnesses to obtain information about the incident.

SNHR condemns all acts of killing targeting civilians. We call on the controlling parties to uphold their responsibilities for protecting civilians living in areas under their control, and to launch an investigation into this attack and make its details known to the public. Syria will never be able to achieve true stability without a genuine political transition process to implement democracy as part of a fixed timetable.
