Yaqin Eisa al-Salama, a baby girl who lived with her IDP parents, originally from Tadmur city, eastern suburbs of Homs governorate, in al-Rukban refugee camp in eastern Homs governorate, was born in January 2022.

Yaqin suffered since her birth from respiratory and nutritional issues due to birth defects in her mouth. On October 23, 2022, Yaqin’s parents took her to the Sham medical point in al-Rukban camp after her health condition deteriorated. The medical staff were unable to save her life due to lacking the necessary medical services and equipment for such cases. Yaqin died the same day.

SNHR notes that Yaqin’s family had been unable to transfer her outside al-Rukban camp for treatment due to the siege imposed on the camp by Syrian regime forces for years, with regime forces preventing anyone from entering or leaving the camp. SNHR has shed light on al-Rukban camp and the human conditions there in multiple releases.
