Ahmad Kamal al Din from Kafr Shalaya village south of Idlib governorate, a student at Aleppo ‘Free’ University’s Faculty of Political Science, was arrested by members of Hay’at Tahrir al Sham (HTS) in Ariha city in Idlib governorate southern suburbs, on October 17, 2022, after criticizing HTS and armed opposition factions on social media platforms. He was taken to an undisclosed location.

SNHR notes that the detainee’s family members weren’t informed of his arrest, with the HTS personnel confiscating his phone and refusing to allow him to contact any other family members or any lawyers. We fear he may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened in the cases of 85% of detainees.

SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution to be provided for all HTS victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detentions that spread fear and terror in society and blackmail detainees’ families.
