Clashes broke out between HTS and the Third Legion of the Syrian National Army forces in several locations near IDP camps in the Afrin region in northern Aleppo suburbs, on October, 17, 2022, with the parties using medium and heavy weapons.

The stray crossfire from these clashes resulted in the death of a young boy, 13-year-old Muhammad Waseem Ayoub, who was shot in the neck, while he was in Qatma village, north of Afrin.

The SNHR has not yet been able to identify the forces responsible for killing this child up to the time of publication. The conflicting forces involved in the clashes bear responsibility for revealing who killed him and arresting the perpetrator.

We condemn these clashes and demand that they be fully and immediately halted, and that the victims be compensated.
