Ahmad Muhammad Rahhal, born in 1956, who was the mayor of his home town, Talbisa city, in the north of Homs governorate, was killed on October 17, 2022 by the blast from an explosive device that had been placed under the vehicle he was in, which was detonated as the car drove by the Sayyidah Khadija mosque in the west of the city, which is controlled by Syrian regime forces.

The Syrian Network for Human Rights is still trying to reach witnesses and survivors of the incident to get more details.

The SNHR condemns all attacks targeting civilians and calls on the controlling force to bear the responsibility for protecting civilians in areas under their control, to launch an investigation into this incident and to reveal its findings to the public. There will be no stability in Syria without a real political transition towards democracy and within a specific timetable.
