Ziad Hamed al Asman, a teacher from al Bal’oum neighborhood in al Mayadeen city in Deir Ez-Zour governorate eastern suburbs. He was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces on September 24, 2022, in a raid on his resident on al Kabr village in Deir Ez-Zour governorate western suburbs, and taken to an undisclosed location.
Ziad’s arrest was after he participated in a protest in al Kabr village in September 22, 2022, that criticized the education curriculum that has been imposed by the Syrian Democratic Forces.
SNHR notes that the detainee’s family members weren’t informed of their arrests, with the SDF personnel confiscating the detainee’s phone and refusing to allow him to contact any other family members or any lawyers. We fear they may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened in the cases of 85% of those detained by the SDF.
SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all SDF victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detentions that spread fear and terror in society and blackmail the families of the detainees and demands that the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by the SDF be revealed.
