Fatima Muhammad Qanbar and her two child nephews, Muhammad and Koli Othman Qanbar, were arrested by Syrian regime forces in Aleppo city on September 21, 2022. The aunt and nephews, all from Maydaniyat village near Afrin city in northern Aleppo governorate, who had been living in Tal Ref’at city in Aleppo governorate’s northern suburbs, were arrested by regime forces as they passed through a checkpoint near Aleppo city’s al Lairamoun Circle, and taken to an undisclosed location.
The arrests weren’t carried out in accordance with any court warrant, and the detainees’ other family members weren’t informed of their arrests, with the Syrian regime personnel confiscating the detainees’ phones and refusing to allow them to contact any other family members or any lawyers. We fear they may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened in the cases of 85% of those detained.
SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all Syrian regime forces victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detentions, and demands that the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by the Syrian regime forces be revealed.
