Syrian Democratic Forces personnel, supported by a US-led coalition forces helicopter, launched a raid, carrying out a number of arrests, in al Kassar village of al Basira town in Deir Ez-Zour governorate eastern suburbs on September 23, 2022. SNHR has documented the arrest of 11 civilians from the same family, all of whom were taken to an undisclosed location.

SNHR notes that the detainees’ other family members weren’t informed of their arrests, with the SDF personnel confiscating the detainees’ phones and refusing to allow them to contact any other family members or any lawyers. We fear they may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened in the cases of 85% of those detained by the SDF.

SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all SDF victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detentions, and demands that the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by the SDF be revealed.
