Two civilians from the same family, Khaled Sayyar al Marfou and Hamad Fayyad al Marfou, originally from al Jerthi village in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, were arrested by Syrian regime forces personnel at a checkpoint in Damascus city, on September 17, 2022, and taken to an undisclosed location.

The arrests weren’t carried out in accordance with a court warrant, and the detainees’ family weren’t informed of their arrest, with the Syrian regime forces personnel confiscating the detainees’ phones and refusing to allow them to contact any lawyer or members of their family. We fear they may be subjected to torture and go on to be forcibly disappeared, as has happened with 85% of those detained individuals.

SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all Syrian regime forces’ victims and their families, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detentions, and demands that the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by the Syrian regime forces be revealed.
