The Syrian Democratic Forces arrested 10 civilians, including 3 children, for conscription as they passed a checkpoint at the Industrial City Circle north of Deir Ez-Zour city on August 2, 2022, and taken to a recruitment center near al Omar Oil Field south of Deir Ez-Zour governorate.

SNHR notes that their families weren’t informed of the arrest and their phones were confiscated and they weren’t allowed to contact their families. We fear they may be forced to participate directly or indirectly in military operations.

SNHR calls for financial and psychological restitution for all victims, as well as for an end to all arbitrary detention and for the fate of thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by Syrian Democratic Forces to be revealed. We note that these arrests are carried out with the objective of spreading fear and terror in the community and blackmailing the detainees’ families. We have additional, well-founded fears for their wellbeing due to the spread of COVID-19.
