An eleven-year-old boy, Muhammad Mamoun al Fatrawi, and a 35-year-old woman, Abeer Al Saloum, both from Jraijsa village south of Hama governorate, were killed, and three other civilians were wounded on May 21, 2022, by the blast of a landmine left by an unknown party when it exploded near a vehicle transporting civilians on a road leading to farmland near al Zara town in Hama governorate southern suburbs.
SNHR notes that the child, Muhammad, died immediately while Ms. Al Saloum died as a result of her injuries the next day. The region is under the control of the Syrian regime forces.
SNHR is still trying to reach witnesses from that incident to get more details.
We demand that the controlling force bear responsibility for protecting civilians in areas under their control, locate the mines planted there and remove them.
We have recorded hundreds of deaths and injuries as a result of landmine explosions; these will continue to constitute a major threat to the population in the years to come in those areas, especially to children.
