Rami Raed al Refa’i, a seven-year-old boy was killed and five other children wounded by the explosion of munition remnants left over from previous shelling by an unidentified source. The munition exploded as they played with it in al Dahiya area in Daraa city on April 21, 2022.
The area is under the control of Syrian regime forces. SNHR notes that remnants of explosive weapons continue to pose a serious threat to civilians. We’ve issued many reports on cluster munitions and other weapons remnants and called for the supply of the equipment required to help the locals remove the explosive remnants.
SNHR has also recorded the Syrian regime’s use of anti-personnel mines, which will continue to constitute a real and lethal threat to people, particularly children, for several years to come. We have documented hundreds of injuries resulting from cluster munitions remnants, and emphasize that the international community must intervene to protect civilians in Syria from these continuous killings.
