Ahmad Omar Abous, a former government employee at the Zayzoun Thermal Station, from Kafrlata village in Idlib governorate northern suburbs, was arrested by Hay’at Tahrir al Sham personnel on May 1, 2021, in a raid on his home in the village, on charges of communicating with Syrian regime forces.  His family were able to visit him several times in Idlib City Central Prison. On February 12, 2022, Hay’at Tahrir al Sham informed his family that he had been sentenced to death and executed on January 29, 2022, in one of Hay’at Tahrir al Sham detention centers, while failing to release his body to his family.
SNHR notes that such a killing is a blatant violation of International Humanitarian Law and is deemed as being unlawful since the execution took place without a fair trial but solely according to the extremist doctrine of the Hay’at Tahrir al Sham extremist group.
