A 16-year-old boy, Ismael Sha’ban Orabi, from Tal’ada village in the western suburbs of Aleppo governorate, was arrested by members of Hay’at Tahrir al Sham in 2021 during a raid on his home in the village to arrest another family member. On January 27, 2022, Hay’at Tahrir al Sham notified the child’s family that he had been executed on December 16, 2021, in one of the group’s detention centers after a death sentence was passed against him. The group failed to return the child’s body to his family.
SNHR stresses that this killing is a violation of international human rights law, and is considered extrajudicial killing as it was carried out without a fair trial, and based on the extremist beliefs of Hay’at Tahrir al Sham.
