A 26-year-old nurse, named as Basem Muhammad Muhammad, a volunteer with the Kurdish Red Crescent, from al Salehiya neighborhood in Hasaka city, was shot dead on January 11, 2022 by unidentified gunmen while he was in al Hawl IDP Camp near al Hawl town in the eastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate which is controlled by Syrian Democratic Forces. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and call on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
