The Vice-President of Inkhel City Council in the northern suburbs of Daraa governorate, named as Mamoun Ahmad al Jabawi, was shot dead in the city on December 9, 2021 by gunmen whose identities haven’t yet been identified; the city is controlled by Syrian regime forces. SNHR is still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and call on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
