A 19-year-old man, named as Osamah Hayyani, from Hayyan town in the north of Aleppo governorate, died on October 12, 2021, due to wounds sustained on October 11, 2021, in the blast of a car bomb of unknown source in a densely populated area in the center of Afrin city in the northern suburbs of Aleppo governorate, causing a massacre. As a result, the total number of victims of the massacre rose to seven individuals, five of them civilians and two others members of Armed Opposition factions.
Afrin city is controlled by the Syrian National Army, with SNHR still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and call on the governing forces in every area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
