A physical education teacher, named as Mu’amar Haj Hamdan, from Binnesh city in the northern suburbs of Idlib governorate, was arrested by Hay’at Tahrir al Sham personnel on August 4, 2021 during a raid on his home in the city over his criticism of Armed Opposition faction and the Salvation Government which is affiliated with Hay’at Tahrir al Sham which he posted on his ‘Facebook’ account. Following his arrest, he was taken to an undisclosed location.

SNHR notes that none of the detainee’s family members were informed of his arrest, with his phone being confiscated, preventing him from contacting anyone. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of the individuals detained in Syria.

SNHR can confirm that at least 3,585 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in HTS’ detention centers.
