A man, named as Ahmad Rahhal, from Mer’yan village in the southern suburbs of Idlib governorate who lives in Salqin city in the western suburbs of the governorate, was arrested by Hay’at Tahrir al Sham personnel on June 8, 2021, in connection with criticizing a money collection receipt issued by HTS’ Salvation Government in a post on his Facebook account, and taken to an undisclosed location.
SNHR notes that none of the detainee’s family members were informed of his arrest, with his phones being confiscated, preventing him from contacting anyone. SNHR fears that he will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’ like approximately 85 percent of the individuals detained in Syria.
SNHR can confirm that at least 2,246 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in HTS’ detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing, given the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.
