A man, named as Mahmoud al Haj Ahmad, died on June 2, 2021, due to wounds inflicted on June 1, 2021, when Syrian Democratic Forces’ personnel opened fire at an anti-SDF protest that took place in Manbej city in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo governorate.
SNHR notes that Manbej city and a number of surrounding villages in east Aleppo governorate witnessed protests against conscription by SDF on May 31 and June 1, 2021, with a total of five civilian victims killed as a result of the SDF’s targeting of protesters, with four of these civilians killed in Manbej city and the other one in al Hadhoud village which is administratively a part of the city.
SNHR notes that the Syrian Democratic Forces have committed another violation of international humanitarian law through this indiscriminate killing, for which the perpetrator must be held accountable.
