Two civilians, named as Abdul Bari al Asaad and Mahmoud Ahmad al Hannan, were shot dead on May 18, 2021, when Syrian Democratic Forces personnel opened fire on protesters in al Shaddadi city in the southern suburbs of Hasaka governorate while they were taking part in a peaceful demonstration against a decision issued by SDF to raise fuel prices in areas under their control.
SNHR notes that the Syrian Democratic Forces have committed another violation of international humanitarian law through this indiscriminate killing, for which the perpetrator must be held accountable.
