Unidentified gunmen blew up the gas pipeline in the badiya (desert area) in the northern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, using IEDs, severely damaging the line and rendering it inoperable on May 17, 2021. The area is controlled by Syrian Democratic Forces, with the pipeline linking al Jabasa gas factory in al Shaddadi city in south of Hasaka governorate with al Rayyan station in Homs governorate.
SNHR notes that the pipeline was targeted previously by unidentified gunmen on February 27, 2021, and we are still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.
We condemn this attack on the gas pipeline and call on the SDF to conduct investigation into the incident and hold perpetrators accountable.
