A woman from Qbaibat village in the eastern suburbs of Hama governorate, named as Zarifeh al Mesleh, died on May 12, 2021 due to wounds inflicted on May 3 by a huge explosion of unknown source and type that took place in a building near residential homes and the IDP camps of Nadi al Furousiyah and al Yaman to the south of Kafrayya town in the northern suburbs of Idlib governorate, which also caused the deaths of four other individuals in the blast.

The area is under the joint control of factions of the Armed Opposition and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham, with SNHR still trying to contact witnesses and survivors to obtain more details of the incident.

SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
