The body of a refugee Iraqi woman, identified as 26-year-old Manal Khalil al Ibrahim, was discovered by local families in Section One of al Hawl IDP Camp near al Hawl town in the eastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate on May 9, 2021, bearing signs of gunshot wounds.
Although the SNHR is unable to identify the party responsible for the woman’s killing, the area is controlled by the Syrian Democratic Forces. Despite the controlling forces bearing responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity, they have not launched any investigation which increases the suspicion of their involvement in the killing.
