A dignitary of the Bani Sab’ah tribe, named as Hayes al Jaryan, from al Qameshli city in the northeastern suburbs of Hasaka governorate, was shot dead on April 22, 2021 by unidentified gunmen in al Hezam al Janoubi neighborhood while he was on his way back from a meeting of the city’s dignitaries held to resolve a dispute between Syrian regime forces and Syrian Democratic Forces. SNHR notes that the neighborhood where he was killed is controlled by the SDF, and we are still trying to contact witnesses to obtain more details of the incident.

SNHR condemns all attacks of this nature which target and kill civilians, and calls on the governing forces in each area to bear responsibility for protecting civilians in the areas under their control, and to conduct investigations into all such incidents and reveal their findings to the public. Stability will not be achieved in Syria without achieving a political transition towards democracy implemented according to a strict timetable.
