The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Hay’at Tahrir al Sham’s ‘Syrian Salvation Government’, named as Fayez Ahmad al Khleif, an Engineering graduate of Cairo University who also served as a faculty member at Idlib University, was reported missing on April 3, 2021, after he left his home heading towards his workplace in Idlib city. On April 7, 2021, his body was discovered by local families near al Tawama village in the western suburbs of Idlib governorate.
Although the SNHR is unable to identify the party responsible for the minister’s killing, the area is under the joint control of Armed Opposition factions and Hay’at Tahrir al Sham. Despite the controlling forces bearing responsibility for revealing the perpetrator’s identity, they have not launched any investigation, which increases the suspicion of their involvement in the killing.
