A man from Mouhasan city in the eastern suburbs of Deir Ez-Zour governorate, named as Khaled Khalaf Saleh al Ramadan, was arrested by Syrian Democratic Forces personnel in October 2018. Since then, he has been classified as forcibly disappeared, with the SDF denying his arrest and preventing anyone, even a lawyer, from visiting him. On April 4, 2021, his family was informed by a former detainee released earlier from an SDF detention center in Hasaka governorate that Khaled had died there due to torture and the deterioration of his health conditions.
SNHR can confirm that at least 3,784 Syrian citizens are still detained or forcibly disappeared in SDF detention centers, constituting a grave threat to the detainees’ wellbeing.
We also note that 61 Syrian citizens have died due to torture in SDF’s detention centers.
