A 25-year-old woman, named as Rawan Rustum, living in al Mzayreeb town in the western suburbs of Daraa governorate, and a 16-year-old boy, named as Khaled Jamal al Rumman, from Inkhel city in the northern suburbs of the governorate, were both arrested by Syrian regime Air Security forces personnel on April 4, 2021, while they were passing through a checkpoint in Menkat al Hatab village in north Daraa. The detainees were taken to a detention center in Damascus city. On April 5, 2021, we recorded the release of Mrs. Rawan by the regime following popular protest against her arrest in al Mzayreeb town while the fate of the child remains unknown. The arrests were conducted without any legal arrest warrants being issued by a court, with no members of the detainees’ families being informed of their arrest or whereabouts, and with their phones being confiscated, preventing them from contacting their families or lawyers. SNHR fears that they will be subjected to torture and ultimately classified as forcibly ‘disappeared’, like approximately 85 percent of all detained persons in Syria.
